Long-running variety show returns for local charities

A LOCAL variety show is set to return next month for its 49th year, with profits donated to small local charities.

The Woodlanders Variety Show will take place at East Woodlands Village Hall, Frome, from Monday 5th to Friday 9th October, with a matinee performance on Saturday 10th October.

The group is in the final stages of rehearsals and will welcome new member Delenn to the stage this year. The production will feature a range of musical numbers, sketches and dancing, with arrangements by Musical Director Hannah Drury, sketches written in large part by Glyn Carpenter and choreography by Trudi Whittock.

The hall will once again be set out in a café style, an idea introduced following the pandemic which has proved popular with audiences. There will also be a bar, raffle and ice creams available.

Woodlanders treasurer Sandra Gaisford said, “The Woodlanders are very proud to be the longest running show of its kind in the South West, and maybe the country! As ever, this will be a completely new show for the audience to enjoy with many varied musical numbers and some interesting arrangements.”

Sandra added, “All profits from the shows are donated to local charities which can be the difference between these small local charities being able to continue with their work or having to close their doors.”
