Mayor plans series of fundraising events for local charities

Warminster’s mayor is hoping to raise thousands for local charities this year by putting on a series of fundraising events for the community.

Mayor Jack Jones is currently working on ideas for a variety of events including a charity football match, bowls day, concert, curry night and tea dance. Instead of selecting chosen charities as mayor, he is planning to support various local causes and hopes to raise over £5,000 during his term.

His first event will be a charity cricket match between The Mayor’s XI v Warminster Cricket Select XI. The match will take place at the club on Sunday 23rd August from 12pm. There will be a bar, raffle and food available.

The cricket match will raise money for We Are Men (WAM), a friendship group providing a safe space for men every Monday from 7pm until 9pm at Warminster Town Football Club.

“We have so many wonderful charities and community groups in Warminster, it is nearly impossible to pick just one, so I’m hoping to raise some money for as many great causes as possible,” said Cllr Jones.

“I believe the best way to do this is to put on as many events as possible to give people the opportunity to come along and support the charities/causes that are closest to their hearts. I would dearly love to raise as close to £5,000 as possible, if not more!”
