Residents visiting Heaven’s Gate and Shearwater at the Longleat Estate will now have to pay a fee to park following the introduction of car park charges.
Drivers will now be charged £1.50 per hour to park at the popular beauty spots.
This follows a decision made by Longleat earlier this year as part of wider investment plans for the areas.
Development Director at Longleat, David Leverett, said, “We ensured plenty of advance notice that charging was being introduced by highlighting the initiative five months ago as part of wider work taking place.”
Blue badge holders using designated disabled bays will not be charged.
People have shared their disappointment about the charges via social media, with some describing the decision as ‘greedy’ and ‘scandalous’. They have also raised concerns that cars could be parked on surrounding roads as a result.
One person said, “So disappointing to see the parking meter. I’ve enjoyed walking there since I was a kid, and then with my kids as they’ve grown up.”
