Saturday 10th May saw all three Warminster Cricket Club teams play across the Wiltshire County Cricket Leagues. The 1st XI continued their winning start to the season recording a 76-run victory over the Calne 1st XI.
Batting first, Warminster scored 271 for seven wickets off their 45 overs, with Jake Small scoring a superb, hard hitting 115 not out and Anre Schutte scoring 66. Calne were dismissed for 195 runs with Rory Cullinan and Brad Small both taking four wickets.
Warminster 2nd XI lost their match against Swindon Titans. Warminster never really came to terms with the wicket and were all out for 130 runs. The Swindon Titans quickly scored the required runs, winning by 10 wickets.
The Warminster 3rd XI narrowly lost to Swindon Royal Challengers in a high scoring match. Batting first, Swindon Royal Challenges scored 301 runs, with Mark Evans, Richard Ambler and Mark Ambler taking three wickets apiece. In response, whilst Stuart Waterland and Jayson Stokes both scored 50s and Tim Trombas top scored with 83, the 3rd XI fell just short of their total, scoring 291for four wickets off their 45 overs.
Last weekend saw the first ‘green sweep’ of the season with all three teams victorious. The Warminster 3rd XI recorded a comfortable win against Allington 2nd XI, scoring 298 for five wickets and then reducing their opposition to 188 runs for nine wickets off their 45 overs. Top scorer was Stuart Waterland with a run-a-ball 87 runs, whilst Jason Stokes and Tim Trombas continued their strong starts to the season, both scoring 50s in consecutive matches. Daniel Smith and Gethen Maskelyne returned the best bowling figures, both three wickets.
Sam Milner-Smith scored a 76-ball century for Warminster 2nd XI, helping the team to reach an imposing 266 runs for four wickets in their match against the Marlborough 2nd XI. In response, the Warminster bowlers were excellent, with Max Ellis joining Sam on the honours board in taking five wickets for 26 runs. Graham Cuthbertson was also exemplary behind the stumps, with the wicketkeeper taking four catches. Marlborough 2nd XI were finally bowled out for 115.
The 1st XI continued their unbeaten start to the season after a good win against Marlborough 1st XI. Marlborough batted first, scoring 201 runs for four wickets off their 45 overs. In response, Warminster were always favourites to chase down the required runs and did so within 38 overs. Anre Schutte top scored with 70 runs, taking his run total after three matches to 243.
