A roadside cafe which began life as a small tin room has celebrated 50 years of serving home-cooked food to generations of customer.
The Hillside Cafe on the A36 near Codford marked its 50th anniversary this month, with owner Ian Stock celebrating five decades since he purchased the original café in 1976.
Over the years, the business has grown from its modest beginnings into the popular café it is today, with Ian working alongside his father, mother and wife to expand the building.
One of Ian’s favourite memories is working with his family during the cafe’s early years.
“It’s an achievement and I feel proud of it,” said Ian. “I like seeing people eat well, and I try and keep it at a reasonable price. Families come in, and we get everybody from toddlers to oldies like me.”
The cafe serves home-cooked food including breakfasts, lunches and roast dinners, and has become a familiar stop for both local residents and people travelling along the A36.
To mark the milestone, the cafe will be decorated on Tuesday 1st September, with treats available for customers throughout the day. It will be open from 7am to 3pm.
