Four people were arrested on suspicion of shoplifting in Warminster this month thanks to the swift action of officers, retailers and CCTV operators.
On Monday 10th November, local officers in Warminster were alerted to a shoplifting incident in B&M by staff members.
Warminster Town CCTV were quickly on the case and managed to give officers the number plate of the vehicle the suspect got into.
After a short search, officers from Local Priority Tasking and Trowbridge Response located the vehicle and arrested two men, both aged in their 20s, on suspicion of shoplifting. Inside the vehicle a large amount of suspected stolen goods was located, from multiple retailers.
Evan Jewers, 27, of Winding Way, Bemerton Heath, has since been charged with three counts of theft and appeared at Salisbury Magistrates Court. He entered guilty verdicts and was sentenced on Friday 14th November.
The second person arrested has been released with no further action.
In a separate incident on Tuesday 11th November, local officers were made aware of a shoplifting incident in Warminster. Town CCTV operators immediately reviewed footage and tracked the two suspects to the train station where they were seen to get on a train to Cardiff.
The train was stopped by traffic units at Trowbridge, where two people were located with a bag of suspected stolen goods worth over £200 which were recovered and returned to the store. Both were arrested and taken to Melksham custody.
Natasha Purbrick, 33, of no fixed address, was charged with theft from a shop and will appear at Salisbury Magistrates Court on 9th January. The other person arrested – a man in his 50s – has been released on bail.
Inspector Lou Oakley said, “This week is Safer Business Action Week, and these arrests are really good examples of some of the results we can achieve as a result of working closely alongside retailers and CCTV operators.”
