Warminster has been recognised for its efforts to raise awareness about water conservation after the town council was presented with a Watermark Town Award.
The award is an environmental initiative launched by Wessex Water that recognises towns working to save water, manage rainwater, reduce surface water runoff and improve the local environment.
Key projects introduced by Warminster Town Council included the installation of yellow fish markers at 30 locations across Warminster to raise awareness that roadside drains flow directly into rivers, as well as the distribution of 80 free water butts to help manage surface water and reduce the risk of localised flooding.
Laura Gowers from Wessex Water said, “The Watermark Award is a celebration of the work that Warminster Town Council has undertaken over the last year to raise awareness about water; why it’s valuable, why we need to save water, how we can manage rainwater, and where it all goes when we flush the loo.
“It’s been a really good year, and we hope that this will continue.”
Mayor Jack Jones said, “Achieving Watermark Town status is a fantastic milestone for Warminster and reflects the dedication of many people who care deeply about our local environment. Water is one of our most precious resources, and this recognition highlights the positive work taking place across our community to protect and enhance it.
“We are proud to join the Watermark network and look forward to building on this achievement in the years ahead.”
