Upgrades at Warminster Community Radio (WCR) have secured its future for years to come.
WCR now boasts three full broadcast studios following a Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) grant from Warminster Town Council, which was used to upgrade transmission equipment and transform its third studio.
Previously, the third studio housed a small desk used solely for production work. Following refurbishment, a full broadcast desk has been installed, and the space can now function as a third broadcast studio.
The room is also equipped for video production work and audio recording of dramas, choirs and local bands.
Originally converted from old public toilets, the Civic Centre Studios had no form of heating or cooling. The recent upgrades have included a climate control system throughout the station, keeping presenters, guests and equipment cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
WCR, which broadcasts from the Civic Centre Studios, will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year.
Station manager Andrew Robinson said he hopes the station will continue to thrive for many years to come.
“WCR is going from strength to strength. We are proud to have been broadcasting to Warminster and the surrounding area for 29 years this month,” he said.
“Looking ahead, we are starting to make big plans for our 30th year of providing entertainment and information on the radio.”
The money for the refurbishment came from the Community Infrastructure Levy, which is funded by building developers.
Presenters broadcast on 105.5FM to the town and surrounding areas, and the station can also be heard online at www.wcrfm.org.uk.
