Warminster group thanked for decades of cancer charity fundraising

A Warminster fundraising group which raised more than £350,000 for cancer support has been praised for its ‘incredible achievement’ following its closure.

The Macmillan Cancer Support Warminster Area Committee has been operating in the town since 1990. It closed recently after its final two members, Sue Bohana and Maureen Woollard, struggled to recruit new members.

Over the years, the group has raised funds through a range of events, including opera performances, maypole dancing and coffee mornings.

The charity has thanked the group for its years of support. In a letter it said, “The Warminster Fundraising group has been involved in raising over an amazing £357,932.73 which is an incredible achievement.

“We hope that you realise what a significant part you have played in helping those living with cancer. Your amazing support over the years has helped us to continue to work to improve the lives of people with cancer.”

Sue and Maureen said, “Personally, we would just like to say a huge thank you to all who have helped and supported the many fundraising events held in the area over the years, it is very much appreciated.”

“It is with much regret that, being the last two members of the Macmillan Cancer Support Warminster Area Committee, we have decided to disband this fundraising group.

“We have endeavoured, over the last four years, to recruit new members to the group, but to no avail.”

Sue and Maureen hope to continue to organise local events to raise funds for the charity on a smaller scale.
