A school uniform shop in Warminster is set to close after nearly 20 years of serving local families.
Scholars, which provides uniforms for primary schools in the town and Kingdown School, will close its Warminster branch on Thursday 31st October due to declining sales.
The shop, originally based in the High Street before moving to George Street, has supplied schoolwear to local pupils for two decades. All remaining stock will now be transferred to Scholars’ Trowbridge branch in Fore Street, with online uniform availability remaining unchanged.
Owner Edward Kirk said, “I have enjoyed being in Warminster and have tried everything to keep the shop open for our schools and loyal customers, but at the moment the shop is simply not viable. I am very grateful for the understanding and support shown to me by the schools and customers. I haven’t given up completely and will be back on the high street if I can find a way to make it work. My family business has been operating in some of our existing premises for over 70 years and we remain committed to retail wherever possible.”
Scholars said that despite supplying more schools than ever before, sales at the Warminster shop had ‘declined significantly’ over the past year, due to reduced uniform requirements from schools and a rise in the use of second-hand items.
The company said that some schools previously served from Warminster had also requested that their uniforms be supplied through the Trowbridge shop, which offers longer opening hours and is only a few miles away.
