Two 17-year-olds from Warminster are organising a fundraising concert in memory of their grandfathers to raise money for Dementia UK.
Jamie Scorgie and Joe Truckle have organised “Forget Me Not – A Charity Concert for Dementia”, which will take place at the Memorial Theatre in Frome on Saturday 30th August.
“The show will involve many local talented singers and performers and will raise money and awareness of the amazing charity, Dementia UK,” said Joe.
“It’s a charity close to our hearts as both our grandfathers died from dementia and the concert is a way to remember them.”
The concert promises an exciting evening of entertainment with songs from musicals including Guys and Dolls, Hairspray, Waitress and Wicked and well as other popular songs. Many of the performers are friends the pair have met through their involvement with the Warminster Athenaeum, Frome Musical Theatre Company and other local productions.
The effects of dementia hit both families hard. Joe explained, “I was quite young when my granddad was diagnosed, and COVID meant we couldn’t see him much near the end. But he was an amazing person and was a performer too – he did many shows with the Athenaeum.
“We chose Dementia UK because they do fantastic work supporting families like ours, and we want to help others going through the same thing.
“People often don’t realise how much dementia affects not just the person, but their whole family. We want this concert to help people understand that and raise awareness of dementia, as well as raising much-needed funds for this incredible cause.”
If successful, Jamie and Joe are open to making Forget Me Not an annual or recurring event.
“If it goes well, we’d love to do it again – maybe even something bigger next time,” added Joe.
