Warminster Town have made a solid and stable start to the 2025/26 season in the Jewson Western League Division One, with performances that suggest the club is beginning to find firmer footing after a challenging spell last year.
After 18 league matches, Warminster sit 11th in a 20-team division, recording seven wins, four draws and seven defeats, with 41 goals scored and 31 conceded.
“It’s a balanced return that places the Red & Blacks comfortably in mid-table – a position that reflects both progress and areas still needing refinement.” said club chairman James Stone.
“Compared with the same period last season, the improvement is clear but measured. At this stage in the 2024/25 campaign, we were struggling closer to the bottom end of the table, with fewer wins on the board and far fewer goals scored. Performances were inconsistent, and results often slipped away in difficult patches.
“This season, while not spectacular, has shown greater resilience and competitiveness. We’re are staying in games for longer, avoiding the heavy defeats that occasionally derailed momentum last year, and creating more scoring opportunities.”
The tally of 41 goals, already higher than the same point last season, highlights the attacking strides made. Highlights included an 8-0 drubbing of Cheddar, 3-0 wins over Cadbury Heath, Shirehampton and Odd Down and 5-2 over Paulton Rovers and 4-1 over Bristol Telephones. 12 different players have found the with Jack Newman leading the way with 13 and Jordan Pinder with eight.
“The side is still working toward the consistency required to move into the division’s top half,” added James. “Several narrow losses have proved frustrating, and while the goal difference is a positive sign, results have shown that the margins remain tight in a competitive league.
“Off the pitch, the club is going through a period of steady development, with infrastructure improvements and growing community engagement helping create a more stable environment. That stability appears to be translating onto the pitch in the form of more organised performances and a clearer team identity.
“As the season moves into the winter period, the aim will be simple: continue to build steadily, turn narrow defeats into points, and cement a position in the middle third of the table.
“The foundations laid so far, especially when compared to the same period last year suggest that Warminster Town are moving in the right direction, even if the progress is incremental rather than dramatic.”
• Town’s game on Saturday against Hengrove Athletic was called off due to a waterlogged pitch and the game against Mendip Broadwalk was abandoned at half-time after the pitch became unplayable.
