A Warminster church has hosted a special service to welcome the new Archdeacon of Wilts, marking the beginning of her role.
On Saturday 24th May, St Denys, also known as the Minster Church, welcomed clergy and community members for the licensing of the new Archdeacon of Wilts, Revd Louise Ellis.
The Bishop of Salisbury, Bishop Stephen, and the Bishop of Ramsbury, Bishop Andrew, were among those who took part in the service.
The Ven Louise Ellis was ordained in 2007 and has experience in parish ministry in Southwark and Salisbury diocese.
She has been working most recently to encourage more people into ministry in the Church of England, and as a priest in Lilliput, Dorset.
The Bishop of Ramsbury, Dr Andrew Rumsey, welcomed Louise into the area at the St Denys ceremony.
He said, “Warminster’s bells rang out for Wiltshire’s new archdeacon, and it was lovely to see Louise Ellis begin her work here, helping to encourage and oversee the churches in this part of the county. Welcome, Louise!”
Louise added, “It was a wonderful welcome at St Denys Warminster to mark the beginning of my ministry as Archdeacon of Wilts.
“Having spent the last eight years in the south of the diocese I am delighted to be staying in the Diocese of Salisbury, and am looking forward to getting to know the people, places and communities in Wiltshire.”
