New CCTV cameras will be installed outside public toilets in Warminster, as well as on Station Road and in the Lidl car park.
Town councillors have agreed to invest further funding in CCTV coverage across the town.
Following discussion at a full council meeting on Monday 12th May, councillors resolved to purchase and install fixed bullet cameras at the central car park toilets and the park toilets, a new multiview camera for Station Road and the Lidl car park, and two ANPR cameras.
The new technology will cost £9,863, with funds to come from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) – money collected from housing developers to help pay for local infrastructure improvements.
The upgrades follow on from two years ago, when the town centre CCTV system was modernised, upgrading it from an analogue to a digital system, which was also funded through CIL.
Councillor Andrew Davis said, “The Warminster and Westbury CCTV partnership provides excellent coverage thanks to continuous advancements in surveillance technology and the commitment of our dedicated CCTV team.
“This investment continues our commitment to keeping the local area covered and sends a message that we remain focused on reducing crime in Warminster.”
The Warminster and Westbury CCTV partnership is overseen by a working group of representatives from Warminster Town Council, Westbury Town Council, Wiltshire Council, the Army, Wiltshire Police, West Wilts Trading Estate and local businesses.
