Pupils at a local primary school planted 20 trees on the school grounds as symbols of their values of hope, love and trust.
Students planted a mixture of crab apple, rowan and oak trees in the grounds at St John’s CofE Primary School.
“At St John’s School, the Christian values of love, hope and trust lie at the heart of everything we do,” said assistant headteacher Charlotte Walker. “By planting their trees, St John’s students are learning that their actions do make a difference and there is hope if everyone continues to work together, not just at St John’s, but worldwide.
“There is love as trees provide habitats for birds, insects and other wildlife; therefore, the children are showing love for these creatures by providing them a safe place to live. There is trust as the children will have trust in their trees to release oxygen, offer shade and absorb rainwater, all of which will improve the school environment. The new trees will expand the forest school space, building on the love the children have in connecting with nature.”
Pupils said they were “happy” to be helping nature, and people, by planting the trees.
