Unwanted tech can now be donated at a new drop-off point in Warminster to help those in need.
Devices can be dropped off at the donation point in Warminster Civic Centre on Sambourne Road from 9am to 4.30pm.
The refurbished devices will then be redistributed to schools, charities and voluntary organisations by through local company Wiltshire Digital Drive (WDD).
Old desktops, laptops and tablets can be donated while smartphones are also accepted and distributed.
To refurbish a laptop or PC, it must be able to run at least Windows 8 or 10. Laptops must have a working screen, trackpad and undamaged charging cable. PCs should ideally come with a power supply, monitor, VGA/display lead, USB mouse and keyboard. Webcams, headsets and microphones are welcome but not essential. Damaged items, such as frayed cables, cannot be accepted.
For tablets and smartphones, if possible, ensure that any donated items have had their passwords removed and are factory reset before being donated.
All devices are wiped to government standards and graded to decide the best route for re-use. WDD will then refurbish and redistribute the second-hand tech.
The group is on a mission to fix the digital divide by 2030 while tackling the UK’s growing e-waste problem and needs second-hand tech to help Wiltshire communities. Since 2020, WDD has re-distributed 3,500 devices to individuals and organisations across the county.
WDD works alongside schools, charities, organisations and council services across Wiltshire and the Southwest to connect devices with those that need them most.
