Warminster families made use of the town’s splash pad last week as schools were forced to close for two days during record-breaking June temperatures that soared above 36°C.
Kingdown School and many local primaries were closed on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th June following a Met Office red extreme heat warning.
The Lake Pleasure Grounds was packed with families on both days taking the opportunity to cool off at the splash pad and seeking shade under trees.
Most schools reopened on Friday as temperatures began to fall.
A spokesperson from Kingdown said, “We would like to thank all of our parents and carers for their understanding, flexibility and support following the unprecedented changes to the school day.
“Making decisions in situations like this is never straightforward. We know that changes to routines can create challenges for families, and we do not take those decisions lightly. However, every decision we make as a school is guided by one overriding priority: the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff.”
