Life and Mobility Solutions: helping Warminster stay mobile

For those seeking expert advice and high-quality mobility equipment, Life and Mobility Solutions in Warminster offers a welcoming and pressure-free environment to find the right product for their needs. Located in George Street, the showroom is part of a family-run company with over 30 years of experience in the mobility and stair-lift industry.

Stuart, the manager of the Warminster branch, explains what sets Life and Mobility Solutions apart: “We have a really wide range of products in our showroom so people can come in, have a look, and try them out. And because we are not tied to any single manufacturer, we don’t push products on to our customers – we simply help them find the most suitable option to suit their needs. We aim to offer the right product and great service at a reasonable price.”

The showroom features an extensive selection of mobility scooters, lightweight powerchairs, wheelchairs, walkers and British-made adjustable beds and rise-and-recline chairs. Additionally, a wide range of daily living aids, such as grab rails, walking sticks, rollators, pillboxes and wheelchair cushions, are available to help make everyday tasks easier.

Mobility scooters remain one of the most popular products, particularly in spring and summer. Customers can find scooters suited for everything from shopping centre trips to countryside excursions. “When helping a customer choose a scooter, we consider factors such as whether it needs to fit in a car, the person’s lifting ability, and what terrain they plan to use it on,” said Stuart. “It’s all about making sure they feel safe and comfortable.”

Try before you buy

One of the biggest advantages of shopping at Life and Mobility Solutions is the ability to try before buying. “Unlike some online and large retailers, we take the time to get absolutely the right product for each individual. We want our customers to return to us in the future, knowing they can trust us to provide the best advice and service. It’s all about chatting with the customer, finding out what they need and then having the opportunity to try the product out to make sure it’s the right product for them.

“This is particularly important for large purchases such as a mobility scooter or wheelchair but it can be equally important for everyday aids like rollators. People who buy these online or have one from a relative, often stand too far away and have the handles too high which can make them dangerous.  Here you can come and try them out and we’ll give you advice on how to use them safely and get the best from them.”

Home delivery

Beyond sales, the company also offers part-exchange, servicing and repair facilities, handled in-house by trained technicians. They even provide home delivery, often personally carried out by Stuart himself. “If there’s ever an issue, we’re right here on their doorstep to sort it out,” he adds.

Life and Mobility Solutions prides itself on its family-run values, ensuring a warm, friendly, and no-pressure experience for every customer. For more information, visit www.lifeandandmobility.co.uk, visit them at 17 George Street or call 01985 440282.

  • Warminster volunteer recognised with Royal Garden Party invitation

A long-standing volunteer at a Warminster charity has attended a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace hosted by the King and Queen in recognition of his service.

Mike Park attended the event, which recognised the contribution that volunteers, charity staff and frontline workers make to communities across the UK.

At 90 years old, Mike dedicates two full days a week to volunteering at the Wessex MS Therapy Centre, as well as attending additional meetings and making himself available in emergencies.

“Mike has volunteered with the Wessex MS Therapy Centre for almost 15 years as Senior Technical Advisor, and his dedication to the charity has been nothing short of outstanding,” said CEO Rosie Eliot. “His role is both highly demanding and critically important, overseeing the complex technical systems required to safely deliver oxygen therapy to our members, while also showing great care and compassion to the people who rely on the centre every day.

“Delivering oxygen therapy requires an advanced and carefully managed technical system, and Mike’s expertise has been invaluable in ensuring the smooth and safe running of the service,” said Rosie.

  • Parking restrictions set for Weymouth Street

Double yellow lines are set to be installed on Weymouth Street in a move aimed at easing congestion and improving access in and out of the town centre.

The work is expected to be completed in around two months’ time, having been approved by Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for Highways, Streetscene and Flooding, Cllr Martin Smith.

“It is recognised the decision won’t please everyone with the loss of free parking balanced against the problems of congestion caused by high usage and poor parking,” said a spokesperson from the Warminster Town Council, which previously endorsed double yellow lines on one side of Weymouth Street following discussions at the Highways Advisory Committee in September 2025.

“It is expected that the parking restrictions will improve access to and from the town centre via Weymouth Street as well as making the roads easier and safer for residents and visitors.”

  • Shrek the Musical comes to town this month

Young performers with the Athenaeum Masqueraders are gearing up to take to the stage this May half term with a production of Shrek the Musical.

The family-friendly show will run from Wednesday 27th until Saturday 30th May at the Athenaeum.

“Known for their energy, talent and ambition, the young performers are ready to bring something truly special to local audiences,” said assistant director Claire Dalton.

“This year’s show promises a spectacular experience, complete with eye-catching costumes, an imaginative set and a fantastic song list guaranteed to have audiences singing and dancing along. Bringing the beloved characters of Shrek, Donkey, Fiona and more to life, the production is packed with humour, heart and high-energy performances.”

  • Local team departs for Everest challenge

A team of 20 local residents has set off on a once-in-a-lifetime expedition to trek to Everest Base Camp.

The Westbury & Warminster to Everest 2 expedition will last just under three weeks and is being led by Major Rab Lundie, an army officer based in Warminster. The team includes people of different ages and physical abilities who have spent months preparing for the challenge.

The group will arrive in Kathmandu for kit checks and cultural experiences before heading into the mountains to climb to Everest Base Camp (5,364m/17,598ft) and Kala Pattar (5,555m/18,225ft).

“Training has been a real success,” said team member Kay, who has owned a business in Westbury for over 20 years. “We have met up regularly since last summer to have training walks together as a team.

“The most challenging part of the expedition will be the altitude. All the physical training we can manage up to now still won’t prepare us for what it feels to breathe and exert ourselves at 5000m where the available oxygen is only about 55% of that at sea level. Aerobic capacity will be severely reduced, and strenuous effort much more taxing. We have carefully factored in acclimatisation days where we still trek to gain height but sleep back down at the same altitude again and this will help us adapt.”

  • Outgoing mayor gives thanks to town

The outgoing Mayor of Warminster, Cllr Andrew Cooper, has passed on his thanks to the people of Warminster as he looks back on a successful year.

During his time as mayor, Cllr Cooper helped to champion a growing business community, support events across the town and highlight the work of the Warminster community.

He also raised £2,190 for his chosen charities, Wiltshire Mind and Open Door Warminster, during his municipal year which included a very popular Mayor’s Charity Tea Dance.

Speaking after Cllr Jack Jones took over as the new Mayor of Warminster on Monday 11th May, Cllr Cooper said, “I have reflected upon what I had let myself in for and my reflections encouraged me to draw two simple conclusions: first, what an enormous privilege it has been and second, how many thanks I owe to so many people for the trust they placed in me and the kindness and support so many have contributed to my term of office that followed.”

  • New players invited to walking rugby sessions

A walking rugby group in Warminster is welcoming more people to join as it looks to establish a full team.

The group currently meets at Warminster Rugby Football Club on Saturdays from 2pm to 3pm. The sessions are open to men and women.

“Walking rugby is a slower-paced, non-contact version of the game, where running is replaced with walking and tackles are replaced with two-handed touch,” said player Mark Huntley. “It is designed to be accessible, inclusive, and suitable for all abilities – including those returning to activity after a long break.

“It’s very relaxed – there’s no pressure and no experience needed. You don’t need to have played rugby before, you might not have picked up a ball since 1977, or you might still be playing. It’s a chance to get out, have a bit of a walk, and enjoy some good company.

“You get a bit of fresh air, but it’s about having a laugh and meeting people whilst enjoying proper rugby. You always leave feeling better than when you arrived.”

  • Warminster fundraiser to complete final charity walk

A Warminster woman is preparing to complete her final Walk of Life after raising more than £1million for Royal United Hospitals Bath over the past two decades.

Nic Noble founded the Walk of Life in 2006 with her sister Vanessa, known as Ness, to support the Dyson Cancer Centre at Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust. After Ness’s cancer progressed, she died in 2007, but Nic continued fundraising in her memory.

Now, after 20 years of the event, Nic is set to take part for the final time.

She said, “From our very first walk around the catchment of the RUH by my sister Nessa’s side, to walking with her each year in my heart, carrying out my promise to her for a wonderful cancer centre at the hospital, my journey is no different.

“Thank you to the charity for being my clarity in dark times, but also in hope. You are all extremely special to me.”

  • Lifelong Warminster resident dies at 103

A woman who lived in Warminster all her life has died aged 103.

Hilda Pinnell died on 24th April after a lifetime living, working and raising a family in the town.

She was born in a house in Furlong in 1923 and was educated at the British School in North Row, where she attended at the same time as child Hollywood star Freddie Bartholomew, before later going to the Old Close School.

During the Second World War, she trained and worked as a cheesemaker in Station Road.

In 1944, she married at the Minster Church of St Denys and moved into a home in Luxfield Road.

“So, I came along in 1946, and my sister came along in 1950,” said her son David Lane.

In around 1954, she was hospitalised for four months after a brick fell from a building in the High Street and hit her on the head.

“It was a difficult time for the family,” said David. “My dad died quite early on when I was young, so she raised myself and my sister through a difficult time. Then she rekindled a friendship with somebody she went to school with, married again, and was sublimely happy; I’ve never seen her so happy.”

She married Gordon Pinnell in 1966 and lived with him until his death 14 years ago. She remained in her Luxfield Road home for more than 80 years, only moving into a care home after turning 103.

Her funeral will take place on Friday 22nd May at The Minster Church.
