Local residents have shared their views on the future of the Lake Pleasure Grounds, with suggestions ranging from improved toilets and a new SEND-friendly play area to better facilities for teenage girls.
An informal two-week consultation received 588 responses, with residents and visitors asked whether Warminster Town Council’s priorities for the park reflected their current and future views.
Several respondents highlighted a lack of facilities for teenage girls.
One teenage girl said, “Being a girl going into my teens, I don’t feel there’s much for teenage girls at the park. I enjoy swings and like chatting with my friends but I’d like to see them and still be able to chat when it’s raining.”
She suggested covered seating where girls could meet away from the skate park and multi-use games area, as well as equipment such as bars of different heights to hang and swing from.
A mother of a young girl said, “As a mum, the playpark caters really well for smaller children and for teenage boys but offers very little for teenage girls who want to meet their friends and hang out to chat. There are only the four swings between the toddler playpark and the lava trail that teenage girls use currently.”
Other consultation findings showed that 64.57% of respondents supported better or increased toilet provision, while 56.40% wanted the Boathouse renovated so it could be used as a space for hire.
Almost half, 49.83%, supported a SEND-friendly play area, such as a sensory garden near the putting green and additional play equipment.
Meanwhile, 35.59% were in favour of a pump track for bike riding, while 46.01% supported a zig-zag path from the Ridgeway to replace the existing steep steps.
A Warminster Town Council spokesperson said, “The consultation findings align with the council’s plans to improve toilet facilities and renovate the Boathouse. Options receiving less support, such as revamping the front entrance and improving signage, remain lower-priority, longer-term proposals.
“The feedback has also highlighted useful new concerns. Some are complex and will require careful consideration and further consultation if those projects progress.”
