A Warminster Scout group has created some delicious dishes for some very important judges.
The Thursday Beavers group recently took part in the annual ‘Ready Steady Cook’ competition at their headquarters in Weymouth Street.
Maxine Severn, assistant Beaver Scout leader, said, “Shopping was done in readiness for the event by Keeo and Malak, two of the leaders, and the event got underway at 9.30am.
“The youngsters were soon into their stride after receiving safety advice from the leaders. Their culinary skills were put to the test as they prepared a three-course meal for the three judges, who were due to taste the finished dishes two and a half hours later.”
Starters included a healthy green salad, homemade dips with bread, and sliced focaccia with oil and garlic. The main courses consisted of sausages, homemade burgers, chicken fajitas and savoury pancakes, all served with salad. Finally, desserts featured two different pancake offerings with an array of fillings, and a strawberry mousse accompanied by fruit salad.
The judges — Deputy Mayor Jack Jones, Athenaeum Masqueraders chairperson Kirstie Price, and Warminster Morrisons Community Champion Gina Hales — had a difficult choice to make but ultimately decided on the winners.
Maxine added, “After much deliberation, the consensus was that for the starter, first place went to TJ Restaurant; for the main course, Lamborghini were the winners; and for dessert, Team Pancake were triumphant.
“The overall winners of the competition were TJ Restaurant, but the judges praised all the groups for their great efforts, which made it a fun and successful event again.
“As well as the judges, many thanks also go to parents Naomi, Alex and Vicky who, along with Keeo, Tic Tac and Malak — three of the leaders — supported the Beavers throughout the morning.”
