A local Beaver Scout leader has received a special award in recognition of 40 years of service to Scouting.
Maxine Severn was presented with the award at the recent St George’s Day parade at Melksham Oak Community School.
She began her Scouting journey in Birmingham at the age of 20 after previously being involved in Brownies, Guides and Venture Scouts. She went on to become a Cub Scout leader before later moving into the Beaver section.
After 35 years of service in the Midlands, she moved to Warminster and transferred to Warminster Scout Group, where she now assists in the Beaver section.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time volunteering in the Scout movement and it’s pleasing to be recognised with an award,” said Maxine.
One of her highlights was attending the 22nd World Scout Jamboree in Sweden in 2011, where she represented Birmingham with a unit of 36 young people and three other leaders.
Also receiving an award was 17-year-old Warminster Explorer Scout Theo Hyde, who has supported the Beaver section as a young leader. He has helped run sessions and completed a range of modules as part of his award.
