A Warminster band has been named Best Live Act at a prestigious awards ceremony celebrating independent grassroots talent from the UK and around the world.
Neon Fields, made up of Ed Barrett, Luke Russe and Piers Ward, were recognised at the Radio Wigwam Awards for their dynamic live performances.
Radio Wigwam, the UK’s top grassroots music station broadcasting globally, held its annual gala last month in London, broadcast live to thousands of viewers.
“The award means a lot to me,” said Ed, who has lived in Warminster for 12 years. “I’m the front man, I’m the singer, and I put a lot of passion into our live performances and do as much as I can to entertain.
“I was really surprised on the night. When third and second place got announced, I turned to the person next to me and said, ‘oh well, we came fourth’ – and then we got announced! I’ve got a very shiny award in my office now, which is very cool to have.”
The band describe their sound as “electronic, atmospheric rock with a movie-score feel to it.”
The trio formed in 2020, just before the Covid pandemic, and produced their debut album remotely while under lockdown conditions.
Ed added, “We didn’t play our first gig until 2022, so even though we had been releasing music since early 2021, we had to translate all the music to the stage.
“First and foremost, our desire was to create music that was unique and wasn’t just the same as everyone else, but then having done that, to now get recognised for standing out as live performers as well is really cool. I’m really proud of this award.”
Neon Fields are performing at multiple festivals this year, including Electric Summer in Taunton on Sunday 30th August. Their music is available on Spotify, and upcoming live dates can be found at https://linktr.ee/neonfieldslive.
