Warminster Town Football Club have reached the Wiltshire FA Senior Cup Final for the first time in 17 years, aiming to win the trophy for the first time in over a century.
A goal from Tyson Pollard just before half-time secured a 1-0 semi-final win over Pewsey Vale on Tuesday 17th February, sending the team through to the county showpiece.
The final will be held at Chippenham FC on Tuesday 14th April, with Town set to face either Devizes Town or Malmesbury Victoria. The last time the club reached the final was in 2009.
Great for the club
Manager Rob Nash said, “It’s great for the club. We’ve been close a few times in recent years but not been able to get over the line. And it’s great for the players too as cup finals don’t come around that often especially here!
“We are all looking forwards to the final and it would be a great achievement for boys to pick up a trophy as the majority of the squad are all local lads representing their home-town club.”
Special achievement
Club Chairman James Stone said, “Reaching the Senior Cup Final is a special achievement for everyone connected with the club. “We are proud to represent Warminster on the county stage and we hope the town will come together to support the team in the final.”
Warminster have lifted the trophy three times, with their last triumph 115 years ago in 1910–11. They have finished runners-up on five occasions, most recently in 2008–09.
